Based on my experience playing this game, it is not overly frightening. However, it can become quite tense when the baby transforms into a monster and chases me at high speed.
The game also intentionally creates confusion regarding its progression. My advice is, if you feel you have done the right thing but are still failing, try doing the opposite.
